In this workshop, we are going to demonstrate step-by-step how to create a downloadable handout which includes the learner’s own notes captured at predetermined points in a Storyline course. We will start by taking a look at the course we will be working on. Click the video below:
So that’s our challenge… We want to replace each of three instances in our course where we ask the learner to reflect and make notes in their own notebook with a text entry box where the learner makes their notes on-line.
Then, at the end of the course, we will retrieve the text data entered and include it in a pdf handout containing a summary of the course with the notes and offer it for download.
In the workshop, we will break this down into steps and show exactly how to go about building our handout template, capturing text input from the learner, retrieving the text Storyline variables in JavaScript and then using the template to create a downloadable pdf file.
If you want to download the original Storyline file to be able to work through each step as you go through the workshop, click the button below:
NOTE: Although this workshop will show you how to create downloadable notes, it is worth noting that the same code, with fairly minor modification can be used for other purposes such as:
- Creating a downloadable certificate of completion
- Allowing learners to submit long-form answers to an assignment
